Some of the strongest pictures arrive when nobody is posing: a laugh after a take, a hand fixing a strap, eyes finding someone off-camera.
I keep the camera ready in those gaps. Not hunting — attending. The between-moments are where people stop arranging themselves.
That is why I leave room in every session for nothing in particular. Nothing is often everything.
