In the studio I build the weather. On the street I accept it. Both are necessary — one sharpens craft, the other keeps the work from becoming sterile.
Studio days are for precision and fabric. Exterior days are for accident: a bus passing, wind lifting a sleeve, a stranger entering the edge of the frame.
I keep both calendars full so neither mode goes soft.
